This Depeche Mode cover came about as a result of early shakedown sessions with the vocalists. It was a massive learning curve for me and the performers. Learning how to work the new studio gear, work with the music and each other. It kind of set in place the way I would record all the other tracks. Everyone did a cracking job with it, but the valuable lesson for me was that the music and arrangements needed the right vocalist for the right track. And as this is one of Elly’s favourite Depeche Mode tracks, I did my best to make sure that if I was to put a cover song on the album, I needed to do it justice.
